Girls Rugby

This year World Rugby launched a global campaign to revolutionise women’s rugby by launching a new “Women in Rugby” brand identity and landmark global campaign, “Try and Stop Us” aimed at driving increased participation and engagement among fans, audiences, players and investors in the women’s game. Always ahead of the game (!), St. Ed’s has been the proud sponsor of Guildfordian’s Girls Rugby Club for a couple of years now, and, recognising it as the fastest growing sport in both the UK and US, we wanted our girls to give it a go and see what the hype was all about. In keeping with the timings of the Rugby World Cup, we were delighted to welcome back Head Coach and Harlequins player Chloe Butler thi term who joined all of our girls for a Rugby training session. Chloe and introduced the girls to the basic skills and spent a lot of time talking about the sport and why she loves playing it. Having mastered the basics, the girls then had the opportunity of playing a game of touch rugby before enjoying a question and answer session with their special guest. A great day of rugby at St. Ed’s and who knows, amongst our girls we may be looking at the members of the future England squad! A big thank you to Miss Wade-Smith and Susan Payne who chairs the Guildfordian’s Girls Rugby for helping us organise such a great day for our girls.
