In Memory

A group of Seniors gave up their lunch hour last week to help attend to the memorial bench in Grayshott in memory of old boy Wilfred Noyce. Noyce was a mountaineer and author, who was educated here at St. Ed’s prior to attending senior school at Charterhouse where he became Head Boy and later a Master. He is most remembered for being a member of the 1953 British Expedition that made the first ascent of Mount Everest , in fact, in the archives of the school is a letter that Noyce wrote to the then Headmaster here at St. Ed’s from camp 3 on the South Col. Having cleared rubbish and leaf litter, our Seniors planted a selection of new flowering plants to ensure Wilfred Noyce looks his best for all to enjoy in the community.
