The St. Ed’s S.C.H.O.O.L Certificate
The St. Ed’s S.C.H.O.O.L Certificate recognises that preparing young people for the world today requires more than just a string of excellent exam results. As a tightly-knit community we want to develop pupils’ individual strengths and help them acquire the qualities needed for success: resilience, resourcefulness, adaptability, ambition and emotional intelligence.
We are preparing our pupils not just for a ‘life of tests’ but ‘the tests of life.’ The future calls us to prepare students who are, imaginative, creative, and entrepreneurial, who have ‘emotional intelligence’ such as compassion, personal rapport, grit, as well as appreciating the importance of caring for and helping others.
The combination of a rigorous core academic provision at I/GCSE Level, accompanied by an enriching and challenging Additional Curriculum helps make the St Ed’s student stand out from the crowd. The S.C.H.O.O.L. Certificate is awarded to all students at the end of year 11 who complete the core academic curriculum and pursue the following Additional Curriculum: –
- Sports (team, individual and Sports Leadership)
- Community (projects which benefit the local or global community)
- Hobbies (an independent module)
- Outdoor Opportunities (camping, trekking, conservation, outdoor work)
- Life Skills (PSHE, Careers, Entrepreneurial Skills, Financial Awareness, Teambuilding and Leadership)
Pupils will be given ample opportunity to access many of these activities through school and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme; the emphasis is on the pupil to plan and lead their personal development.
Students will complete their S.C.H.O.O.L Certificate E-Portfolio via the Microsoft 365 system so that tutors, teachers and the Senior Management Team can keep track of each pupil’s personal development with the touch of a button.
