Senior Sport

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try”

John F Kennedy

Thanks to our location nestled within 40 acres of Surrey countryside, St. Edmund's sporting facilities include a magnificent 9-hole Golf Course (first laid-out in the 1920s), games fields, a cross-country running course an indoor swimming pool, rifle range and a floodlit all-weather sports pitch. We also have a close association with The Edge in Haslemere allowing our senior children the opportunity of indulging their sporting and fitness interests in a wider range of choice.

For the boys, the major winter team sports are football and hockey; cricket and athletics the major summer ones. For the girls, the main winter sports are netball and hockey, with rounders and athletics in the summer term. Golf, swimming, judo and tennis take place throughout the year; however, a jam packed and energetic co-curricular programme allows our senior pupils to develop skills in a range of other pursuits including climbing, shooting, hiking, scuba-diving and equestrianism to name but a few.

Many of our pupils play sport at County and National level and with our team of enthusiastic and skilled Coaches, the motivation of our pupils in all areas of their sporting prowess only further enhances their chances for greater success. Our children are taught the values of being gracious in victory and honourable in defeat. Parents and friends are very much encouraged to come to school matches; St. Ed's supporters are famously friendly and sporting, and they always seem to turn out in large numbers for home matches …. possibly because of the Match Teas!
