"Oh the places you’ll go; today is your day. Your mountain is waiting, so … get on your way!"
Our bright and colourful Reception classroom presents a setting where imagination and curiosity join forces to begin the greatest adventure of all – big school!
Children naturally move up from our Little Ed’s Nursery into our Reception class as well as from other Nurseries in the surrounding area. Continuing with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, our Reception children acquire their learning skills through a combination of child-led activities and adult inspired interests and our unique covered ‘outside classroom’ enables an abundance of discovery and practical learning, as does our story corner and role-play zone. Our commitment to small teaching groups allow our highly-skilled staff to appreciate the individuality of every child who are encouraged and supported to progress in their own way and in their own time – St. Ed’s appreciates that each child is different.
Complementing our child-led ethos is the development of the children’s literacy and mathematic talents and our children read daily to ensure a love of stories is captured from an early age. Our Early Years Curriculum is also enriched thanks to the many Prep and Senior School specialist teachers who join the children weekly for French, Sport, ICT, Music, Dance, Swimming – a rare & beneficial commodity that helps enormously in developing life-long learners. And our Learning Outside the Classroom initiative is a firm favourite amongst our children with the school’s 40 acres of Surrey countryside certainly lending itself perfectly to such an activity.
For our Reception class, the difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the little extra.
