A Victorian Day

The children in Form 4 swapped their uniform for Victorian school clothes this term when they visited The Victorian School Rooms in Guildford. Tackling activities including Recitation, Physical Drill, Object Lessons and Needlework, the children then had a try at Copperplate Handwriting (I think there’s a newly formed respect for the font button). During the afternoon, everyone enjoyed playing with an assortment of Victorian toys, a few of which proved quite a challenge as to how they actually worked, for the teachers as well as the children! A great day enjoyed by all and I have to say, upon hearing that in Victorian times there could be over 100 children in a class and that the cane was the preferred choice of punishment, children in Form 4 are a little more appreciative of St. Ed’s … who can blame them!
