Religious Studies

Religion and faith has been intrinsically intertwined with many elements of history and has played an important role in shaping the society we see today. In the Prep, Forms 5 and 6 pupils get to learn this through studying parables and the fundamentals of the Christian faith, but also learn the basics teachings and practices of Sikhism and about the origins of Buddhism to help reflect the increasing diversity that we see in society and the richness this brings to British culture. In Forms 7 and 8 students embark on a two-year course which as well as increasing their knowledge about different religious principles, see them discussing and debating various issues in society such as the death penalty and how we should help those who are in poverty. In turn, this sees students learning to improve their writing skills as they look to construct arguments in essays and develop their clarity of written expression as they look to demonstrate their understanding of different points of view. All of this helps to give students an excellent grounding in Religious Studies as they then look to progress on to their senior school.
