Academic Support
At St. Edmund’s we believe every pupil deserves the opportunity to achieve their potential. The academic support department is fully involved in ensuring each child has the support they need to thrive at school.
St. Edmund’s offers academic support by trained staff which is tailored to the individual needs of the pupil. The academic support staff work closely with class and subject teachers to ensure continuity and the most effective provision of support. The department includes full time and peripatetic specialists as well as benefitting from a close network of local Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists' and Counsellors which ensure that a rounded approach to academic support is maintained and encouraged.
We are able to offer one to one and group academic and/or emotional literacy support to pupils. This support takes place during the school day, the time of which is agreed with the pupil and parent. Any support is given with compassion and empathy and embodies the family ethos we are so proud to have here at St. Edmund’s.
Before starting at St. Edmund’s, we ask pupils to undergo screening tests with the Academic Support team to identify any particular educational needs that may not have previously been identified. Any results of concern are then shared with parents and students, and form the basis of the start of their journey at St. Edmund’s. Parents are contacted on a regular basis, to ensure consistency of provision and appropriate care.
