Geography

There has never been a better or more important time to study geography.

With the growing importance of issues such as climate change, migration, environmental degradation, spatial epidemiology and inequalities, geography is one of the most relevant courses you could choose to study. It helps students unpick key issues and enhances their understanding of complex geographical issues.

We are a department of committed geographers: we love our subject. We pride ourselves in ensuring a tailored course for our students one that will inspire and encourage pupils to question their surroundings. We believe in interactive teaching, which helps pupils to develop the range of intellectual and practical skills that allow them to enjoy and succeed in the subject. We utilise the school grounds to enrich the lessons and ensure students experience geography in the world around them.

Geography is a thriving subject at St.Edmund’s with a high up take at GCSE. Students currently follow the Edexcel specification A, which provides a balance of human and physical topics. Students all enjoy the residential fieldtrip which explores the coastline of South Devon along with some topical urban development issues in Plymouth.
