Science

St. Edmund's School Science Department is dedicated to fostering a lifelong interest and enthusiasm for science amongst its Prep students. Our lessons are designed to nurture the children's natural curiosity. While the WOW factor is very important in Science, we also like to hear 'That's funny...' which truly tells us that the pupil has engaged  a deep level with the concept being investigated.

We incorporate a wide range of practical work and demonstrations, in our well-equipped laboratories, to solidify scientific theories as well as spending time looking at 'How Science Works' so that the pupils are able to make connections between what happens in the classroom and the real world. By providing an engaging environment we hope to provide a strong foundation which will prepare them for the next step in their scientific endeavours.

We provide a wide range of enrichment activities that are specifically tailored to stretch and challenge our students and provide them with a sense of awe and wonder. These activities include; using our extensive woods to conduct Habitat Studies, outings to Science Centres such as the Winchester Science Centre or The Look Out Discovery Centre, attending lectures and participating in the British Science Week.
