Design & Technology
Design & Technology (DT) develops young children’s skills and knowledge of design, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and a range of materials. It encourages children's creativity and encourages them to think about important issues.
Pupils at St. Edmund's are given the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products. We feel it is vital to nurture creativity and innovation through design, and by exploring the designed and made world in which we all live and work.
DT teaches Maths and English and other subjects on the curriculum in a fun and inspiring manner and put these subjects into context, making them easier to digest and more understandable to younger pupils.
In the Lower Prep School, pupils in Forms 3 and 4 have a one hour ‘Technology’ lesson per week which alternates each week between DT and ICT.
Projects undertaken;
Form 3 – Marble mazes, rainmaker sticks, exploring flight.
Form 4 – Spinning tops, catapult games, puppets and linkages.
